Hilchos-Yom Tov [Candle Lighting]


  • Some have the Minhag to light the candles first and than make the Brocha (like on Shabbos).

  • Some have the Minhag to make the Brocha first and than light.

  • If you light first and make the Brocha afterwards on the first day you can strike a match and light (because you have not yet been Mekabel Yom Tov).

  • If you have the Minhag to light after night the first day or on the 2nd night (when everyone lights after night) you should light the candles from an existing light.
     

  • You are not permitted to strike a match (make a new light) on Yom Tov.
     

  • It is advisable to light a Yourzeit light before Yom Tov to light the candles from.
     

Hilchos-Lag B'Omer

Since this year Lag B'omer falls on Sunday, you may have a haircut or shave on Friday  L'Kovod Shabbos.

 


  • The R'mo (493:2) says that you should not have a haircut (or shave) till the morning of Lag B'omer.

  • However the Mishna Brurah says that some Achronim permit having a haircut, the night of Lag B'Omer.

Hilchos-Pesach Shaine

Tonight  is Pesach Sheini,
Some people have a Minhag to eat matzo on Pesach Sheini during the day.
Some also eat on the night of the 15th (tomorrow night because that is when Pesach Sheini was eaten).
You may not eat roasted lamb on the night of the 15th. 

Hilchos-S'fira

  • If you counted the days correctly but not the weeks (On the 27th day you said today is 27 days which is 3 weeks and 5 days) you are Yotze.

  • You should preferably count over without a Brocha.

  • If you counted the weeks correctly but not the days (On the 27th day you said today is 26 days which is 3 weeks and 6 days) You are Yotze.

  • You should preferably count over without a Brocha.
  • Hilchos-S'fira

    If you counted the days but not the weeks (you said today is 26 days but you did not say that is 3 weeks and 5 days) you are Yotze.

    You should preferably count over without a Brocha.

    If you counted the weeks but not the days (you said today is 3 weeks and 5 days) you are Yotze.

    Hilchos-S'fira

    You should know which day of S'fira it is before making the Brocha.

    You are not Yotze the Mitzva of S'fira by writing it and therefore if you wrote it you can still make a Brocha on the counting. 

    Hilchos-Birchas Elonos

    A few Halochos on  Birchas Ilanos (the Brocha made upon seeing
    trees in blossom during the spring):



    •  You can make the Brocha eventhough it isn't your first time seeing the blossoms.

    Hilchos-S'fira

    The Minhag is not to make the Brocha Shecheyonu in the S'fira.

    However you may make it on Shabbos, therefore if you have a new garment you may put it on Shabbos and make the Brocha Sheceyonu.

    You may buy new clothes in the S'fira.

     

    Hilchos-S'fira

    They are two Minhagim in regard not having haircuts/listening to music in the S'fira.  some keep till Lag B'omer and some keep from Rosh Chodesh Iyar till  the 3  Yeima  Hagbolah.


    • You should do according to your Minhag, however you may choose to keep the other Minhag one year if it is more convenient.

    • Women may tweeze their eyebrows or shave and wax their body hair in the S'fira (they may not have a haircut).
